One way i have found to enjoy a nice day of conversation is to discuss their upbringing and life at my age, which is currently 28.  I like to hear all the interesting things they have to say about how different life was at that time, and how different the country was.  The two of my grandparents have enough stories and interesting things to say to fill a book, so I cherish the time I spend with them and they enjoy having ears to listen to their words. Table of goodies

One thing my grandmother has always done is provided food and beverages constantly to guests whenever visiting, even if you just came from eating a meal.  As a result my grandfather loves to eat.  Goodies, and specialties of various sorts are something he loves to have but cannot always go out and get himself.  I always make sure to stop by our favorite local deli/bakery when I’m in town, and make sure I fill up on a few of their favorites. Closeness is key

One great way to spend time with your elders and increase their sense of independence is to hold weekly dinners at their house on the same day each week, such as a sunday supper or friday evening get together.  It is a nice way to catch up with other family members in the area that are busy during the week and bring everyone together showing your eldest what they have created.
