The UK is having an Awareness Week dedicated to finding solutions and raising money for dementia help. Raising awareness about issues effecting the elderly is a very important step in gaining exposure, and hopefully help and healing for those effected by the issues. It does seem that there is an awareness week for many different issues effecting the general worldwide population, while they may seem to be nothing more than a simple nice thing- they do show some progress.
Awareness can help to push for funding and other services to become available for many issues, from those effecting the elderly to those effecting anyone else. Campaigns and supporters can help to push funding and help where it can most easily reach the population an issue effects.
An article about the awareness campaign suggests a few things someone can do to help out the cause:
For those who feel the need to contribute to raising awareness, there are a wide range of fundraising activities that people are taking part in throughout the UK, such as popular Memory Walks, running and cycling events, together with a sampling of more extreme sports like abseiling and parachute jumping. Many care homes themselves are also looking to get involved, like Acacia Lodge in Henley, who are holding open days for their local communities to attend, as well as Anchor Homes, who own more than ninety UK residential care facilities, and are holding free ‘information sessions’ to help pass their expertise onto friends and relatives of dementia sufferers.

Even for those not in the UK, it is a wonderful thing and feeling to help those in need. No matter if it is dementia, or another issue- campaigning and pushing for help is an important step in getting help for those in need.
