Two lots of baby spinach are being recalled over a contamination that can lead to severe health issues in the young and elderly. Officials warn that if you are experiencing any symptoms to go to a doctor immediately.
According to the California Department of Public Health, the spinach is being recalled by Ready Pac Foods, Inc.
The E. coli O157:H7 was isolated from routine surveillance samples. No illnesses have currently been linked to this product.
Only the following two lots of baby spinach are being recalled:
Best if Used By JUL 04 I1707B IR127121 Best if Used By JUL 08 I2007B IR130373If you have either of the recalled lots of baby spinach, you should throw it away, a news release from the department stated. Infection with E. coli O157:H7 infection often causes abdominal cramps and diarrhea.
People with severe infections may suffer kidney damage and require hospitalization. Complications can be fatal.

E Coli can be uncomfortable, but overall harmless to many but if one has a weakened immune system due to age, the complications can be far more serious. While this specific strain of E Coli is a much more serious one than the usual contaminations. If you do have an effected package of the baby spinach, it is important to get rid of it immediately.
This latest recall shows that food safety measures may need some more brushing up, especially with such dire consequences over bad lots of foods.
